New Features

Tidy Up Drafts in Bulk

The Drafts list now lets you clear out several drafts at once instead of one at a time.

• Select drafts with the checkboxes, or Select all at the top of the list.
• Discard selected (N) removes just the ones you picked.
• Discard all clears every draft, including ones further down the list you haven't scrolled to yet.
• Discards are confirmed first and can't be undone. If any draft can't be removed, it stays selected so you can try again.

Keep a Draft's Collection

When you save a recipe into a collection as a draft, that choice now sticks. Publishing the draft later adds the recipe to the collection you originally picked — no need to set it again.

Photo Imports Go Through Drafts

Importing a recipe from a photo on the web now works the same way as links, pasted text, and videos: the photo is sent off to be read, and a draft is created so nothing is lost if you step away. A quick result opens straight into the editor; a slower one keeps working in the background and lands in Drafts.

Improvements

• Fewer dropped ingredients on import. Lines like "Cooking spray, for greasing", "Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper", or an all-capitals "NUTMEG" are no longer mistaken for section headings — so the ingredients that follow them stay in the list.
• More reliable photo imports. Imported photos are now re-encoded as JPEG so large images stay under the limits of the service that reads them.
• Guardrails on drafts. To keep imports fast and reliable, there's now a limit of 500 drafts waiting at once and a cap on extremely large imports. Drafts saved before these limits existed still publish normally.

Bug Fixes

• Copying a shared recipe now brings its photo along, instead of leaving the copy without one.
• A draft whose import had already started is no longer turned away with a quota error on its next step.
• Discarding a draft that was already gone no longer shows an error.
• Restored the Back to Drafts link on the draft finish page.

Imports no longer have to be an all-or-nothing moment. You can now set a recipe aside as a draft, pick it back up later, and import to Recipe Studio straight from your phone.

New Features

Drafts

A new Drafts section (in the sidebar, between Pantry and Settings) holds recipes you've started but haven't published yet.

• Save as draft when adding or importing a recipe — keep the title, ingredients, and steps without adding the recipe to your collection yet.
• Every draft shows where it came from, how long ago you saved it, and its status: Processing, Ready, Failed, or Expired.
• Open any draft to review and edit it, then Publish it as a recipe, Save your changes for later, or Discard it.
• If an automatic import can't finish, the draft keeps whatever was captured so nothing is lost — you can Enter manually from there instead of starting over.
• Drafts are deleted 30 days after you last save them. A countdown on each draft ("Expires in 5 days") warns you as that date approaches.

Import From Your Phone

Share a recipe page or a photo of a recipe to Recipe Studio from your phone and it arrives in Drafts, ready to review and publish when you're back at your kitchen.

Bug Fixes

• Large shopping lists no longer drop their from [Recipe] source links. On lists with hundreds of items the recipe attributions could silently disappear; every item now keeps the recipes it came from, no matter how long the list.

Behind-the-scenes improvements that make importing recipes more reliable and easier to understand when a site won't cooperate.

Clearer Message for Protected Sites

Some sites sit behind a bot-protection check that blocks automatic imports. Instead of a generic failure, the import now tells you exactly what happened and what to do next — save the recipe with the bookmarklet, or enter it manually.

More Reliable Recipe & Photo Imports

• When the AI returns an unusable result, the import quietly retries instead of handing you an empty recipe
• Photo imports no longer crop to a stray header band, margin, or the whole page — only a real photo of the dish is used as the recipe image, and pages with no photo are left without one

Bug Fixes

• A recipe imported before a change to how recipes are read now refreshes correctly, so you always get the current extraction rather than a stale cached one

Hands-free timers land in Kitchen Mode, and printed recipes now look the part.

New Features

Cooking Timers in Kitchen Mode

Kitchen Mode now spots the times written into your steps and turns them into one-tap timers, so you never have to leave the recipe to set a timer.

• Any duration in a step ("simmer for 20 minutes", "let cool 1 hour 30 minutes", "half an hour") appears as a tappable chip — tap it to start a countdown
• Running timers line up in a bar at the top of Kitchen Mode with a live mm:ss countdown
• Pause and resume a timer, restart it from the top, or dismiss it when you're done
• Each timer is labeled with its action and step (e.g. "Let cool · Step 4"); tap the label to jump straight back to that step
• A sound plays and the timer turns red when time is up
• Timers keep running if you leave Kitchen Mode mid-recipe and pick back up where they were; finishing the cook clears them

Improvements

Cleaner Printed Recipes

Printing a recipe from your browser (File → Print, or Ctrl/⌘ + P) now produces a tidy, paper-friendly page instead of the on-screen layout.

• Card borders, shadows, and the header photo are dropped for a clean printout
• The layout is compacted so recipes fit in fewer pages
• Wider recipes print in landscape without the last steps getting cut off

Faster Recipe Imports

Importing a recipe that's already been imported before now returns almost instantly, skipping the extraction step entirely.

• Popular recipes only need to be read once — after that, importing the same link is near-instant for everyone
• Different links to the same recipe (with or without www., tracking tags, a trailing slash, or a youtu.be short link) are recognized as the same recipe
• You always get the current recipe — edits to a page or a switch to a smarter extraction model refresh what's imported automatically

A few refinements to collections and kitchen settings, plus behind-the-scenes work to support Recipe Studio on more devices.

Clearer Empty Collections

Open a collection that doesn't have any recipes yet and Recipe Studio now points you straight to filling it.

• Empty collections show a dedicated prompt to add recipes from your existing library
• An Add Recipes button opens the recipe picker right there, instead of the generic "import a new recipe" prompt meant for your main library

Bug Fixes

• Kitchen members who haven't finished setting up their profile now show a readable label in Kitchen Settings, instead of a blank name or a stray separator next to their role.

Two ways to get recipes and groceries where you need them faster — paste a recipe straight from anywhere, and see which recipe put each item on your shopping list.

New Features

Paste Recipe Text

You can now import a recipe by pasting its text directly, with no URL required — handy for recipes copied from a message, an email, a PDF, or a site that blocks automated imports.

• On the Add Recipe page, click Paste Recipe Text and paste ingredients, instructions, or a full recipe into the box (up to 20,000 characters)
• AI extracts the title, ingredients, and steps into an editable recipe for review
• Works with plain text as well as recipe data copied without its surrounding page

Recipe Sources on Shopping List Items

Shopping list items added from a recipe or your meal plan now show which recipe they came from.

• Each item displays a from [Recipe] link back to its source recipe
• When the same ingredient is added by more than one recipe, every source recipe is listed
• Source links appear on wider screens to keep the list tidy on phones

Improvements

• Adding ingredients from recipes and meal plans, categorizing items, and reordering the list are all noticeably faster, especially for long lists.

Collections look better on their own, and the Meal Plan now shows exactly the days you want.

New Features

Recipe-Sourced Collection Covers

A collection with no uploaded photo is no longer blank — it borrows a photo from one of the recipes inside it, so every collection is visually identifiable at a glance.

• Any collection without its own image automatically shows the photo of one of its recipes, wherever the collection's image appears — on the Collections page and on the collection's own header
• The fallback is worked out from the collection's current recipes, so it updates on its own as you add, change, or remove recipe photos
• Prefer a specific cover? Open Edit on a collection and click Select from a recipe to pick one of its recipes and use that photo as the permanent cover
• The picked photo is copied, so it stays put even if that recipe later changes its photo, leaves the collection, or is deleted
• Uploading your own image still takes priority and works exactly as before

Flexible Meal Plan Views

The Meal Plan now lets you choose how many days to look at, and the whole page follows your choice.

• Pick 1 day, 3 days, 5 days, or 7 days above the calendar — narrower views are far easier to work with on a phone
• Date navigation moves by however many days you're viewing, and Jump to Today always returns to a range containing today
• The Add … to List button adds ingredients for exactly the days on screen, and its label names them (for example, "Add 3 Days to List")
• Printing gives you just the days you can see — portrait for narrow views, landscape for wider ones
• Your choice is remembered on that device, and the address bar reflects it, so you can bookmark or share a link that opens on the same days

Improvements

• Settings now opens on the Kitchen section instead of skipping past it to Account, and the non-functional search box has been removed until it actually works

Bug Fixes

• When cropping a collection image, problems reading or preparing the photo are now shown inline right below the cropper, instead of leaving the Apply Crop button silently doing nothing — the cropper stays open so you keep your framing

Filling a collection no longer means editing recipes one at a time.

New Features

Add Existing Recipes from a Collection

Every collection page now has a persistent Add Recipes button — on empty collections and full ones alike.

• Click it and a picker opens over the page, starting with your most recent recipes so you can fill a collection by browsing rather than by remembering titles
• Start typing to search your whole library by title, ingredient, or tag — the same search you get everywhere else
• Tick as many recipes as you want and confirm once; the collection updates in place, with no page reload and no trip through the recipe editor

The picker is explicit about what your choice will do:

• Recipes already in the collection are marked In this collection and can't be added twice
• A recipe that currently sits in another collection is marked Moves from that collection, because a recipe belongs to one collection at a time — and the collection it leaves shows its new count right away

Remove a Recipe from a Collection

Each recipe card in a collection now has a ✕ button. One click takes the recipe out of the collection — the recipe itself stays in your library, just uncollected.

Improvements

Clearer Collection Documentation

The changelog previously claimed a recipe could be added to multiple collections. It never could — a recipe lives in one collection at a time, and tags are the tool for cross-cutting themes. The help topic and the changelog now say the same thing the app has always done.

A fresh look for Settings, a proper theme picker, and a couple of Kitchen Mode fixes.

Recipe Studio now has a theme preference. Choose the look that suits you and it applies instantly across the app.

• Open Settings → Preferences

Settings has been rebuilt around a navigation rail so each area has its own dedicated page instead of a single crowded screen.

• Sections are grouped into Kitchen (Shared kitchen, Aisles, Shopping lists, Recipe tags) and You (Account, Preferences, Data & export)
• Manage your profile, email, and security directly from the Account page without leaving Recipe Studio
• On mobile, Settings opens to a compact index you can tap into and step back out of

Import Recipes from Instagram

You can now import recipes from Instagram reels and posts, alongside the existing YouTube video import.

• Paste an Instagram reel or post link into the Import from URL field
• The recipe details are pulled from the post caption
• The post's image is used as the recipe photo
• Ingredient groups in the caption (e.g. "For the sauce:") are preserved as sections

Add Recipes Directly from a Meal Slot

The inline meal-slot input now doubles as a recipe search.

• Start typing in a slot's + input and matching recipes from your collection appear
• Use the arrow keys to highlight a suggestion and press Enter, or click it, to add the recipe to that slot
• Type freeform text instead (like "leftovers") and press Enter to add a note as before

Improvements

Collapsible Tag Filters

Tag filters on My Recipes are now tucked behind a Filter by tags toggle, so the search area stays uncluttered. The toggle shows a count of any active tag filters and expands automatically when filters are applied.

Cleaner Imported Recipe Text

• Decorative Unicode characters (box drawing, geometric shapes, stray control characters) are now stripped from imported titles, ingredients, and instructions
• HTML entities are decoded consistently so ingredient names and steps read correctly
• Ingredient sections are now detected in unstructured and social-media recipes even when section headings don't end with a colon

Bug Fixes

• Instagram imports now reliably capture the correct post image instead of an unrelated or missing thumbnail
• Saved Instagram source links are cleaned of tracking parameters and point at the canonical post

A small but handy addition to meal planning, plus a reliability fix for new accounts.

New Features

Freeform Notes in the Meal Plan

You can now add short text notes to any meal plan slot without linking a recipe — useful for quick reminders like "cereal", "dinner leftovers", or "eating out".

• Click the + button at the bottom of any meal slot to open an inline input
• Type your note and press Enter or click Add
• Notes appear as compact cards alongside recipe entries
• Remove a note with the Remove button, just like a recipe entry

Bug Fixes

• New kitchens now always get a default Shopping List created automatically, preventing a redirect loop that sent some new users back to the dashboard on their first visit to Shopping List

Shopping lists now support multiple named lists per kitchen.

• Create, rename, and delete lists

Each shopping list can now either share kitchen-wide aisles or use its own list-specific aisles.

Recipes can now store and display ingredient sections (for example, "Salad" and "Dressing").
