New Features

Recipe-Sourced Collection Covers

A collection with no uploaded photo is no longer blank — it borrows a photo from one of the recipes inside it, so every collection is visually identifiable at a glance.

• Any collection without its own image automatically shows the photo of one of its recipes, wherever the collection's image appears — on the Collections page and on the collection's own header
• The fallback is worked out from the collection's current recipes, so it updates on its own as you add, change, or remove recipe photos
• Prefer a specific cover? Open Edit on a collection and click Select from a recipe to pick one of its recipes and use that photo as the permanent cover
• The picked photo is copied, so it stays put even if that recipe later changes its photo, leaves the collection, or is deleted
• Uploading your own image still takes priority and works exactly as before

Flexible Meal Plan Views

The Meal Plan now lets you choose how many days to look at, and the whole page follows your choice.

• Pick 1 day, 3 days, 5 days, or 7 days above the calendar — narrower views are far easier to work with on a phone
• Date navigation moves by however many days you're viewing, and Jump to Today always returns to a range containing today
• The Add … to List button adds ingredients for exactly the days on screen, and its label names them (for example, "Add 3 Days to List")
• Printing gives you just the days you can see — portrait for narrow views, landscape for wider ones
• Your choice is remembered on that device, and the address bar reflects it, so you can bookmark or share a link that opens on the same days

Improvements

• Settings now opens on the Kitchen section instead of skipping past it to Account, and the non-functional search box has been removed until it actually works

Bug Fixes

• When cropping a collection image, problems reading or preparing the photo are now shown inline right below the cropper, instead of leaving the Apply Crop button silently doing nothing — the cropper stays open so you keep your framing

Filling a collection no longer means editing recipes one at a time.

New Features

Add Existing Recipes from a Collection

Every collection page now has a persistent Add Recipes button — on empty collections and full ones alike.

• Click it and a picker opens over the page, starting with your most recent recipes so you can fill a collection by browsing rather than by remembering titles
• Start typing to search your whole library by title, ingredient, or tag — the same search you get everywhere else
• Tick as many recipes as you want and confirm once; the collection updates in place, with no page reload and no trip through the recipe editor

The picker is explicit about what your choice will do:

• Recipes already in the collection are marked In this collection and can't be added twice
• A recipe that currently sits in another collection is marked Moves from that collection, because a recipe belongs to one collection at a time — and the collection it leaves shows its new count right away

Remove a Recipe from a Collection

Each recipe card in a collection now has a ✕ button. One click takes the recipe out of the collection — the recipe itself stays in your library, just uncollected.

Improvements

Clearer Collection Documentation

The changelog previously claimed a recipe could be added to multiple collections. It never could — a recipe lives in one collection at a time, and tags are the tool for cross-cutting themes. The help topic and the changelog now say the same thing the app has always done.

A fresh look for Settings, a proper theme picker, and a couple of Kitchen Mode fixes.

Recipe Studio now has a theme preference. Choose the look that suits you and it applies instantly across the app.

• Open Settings → Preferences
• Pick Follow System, Light, or Dark
• The change takes effect immediately and is remembered on your next visit

Settings has been rebuilt around a navigation rail so each area has its own dedicated page instead of a single crowded screen.

• Sections are grouped into Kitchen (Shared kitchen, Aisles, Shopping lists, Recipe tags) and You (Account, Preferences, Data & export)
• Manage your profile, email, and security directly from the Account page without leaving Recipe Studio
• On mobile, Settings opens to a compact index you can tap into and step back out of

• Recipe step numbers are now properly centered within their circles
• On the Kitchen Mode "recipe complete" screen, the footer controls stay on screen and remain reachable

Import Recipes from Instagram

You can now import recipes from Instagram reels and posts, alongside the existing YouTube video import.

• Paste an Instagram reel or post link into the Import from URL field
• The recipe details are pulled from the post caption
• The post's image is used as the recipe photo
• Ingredient groups in the caption (e.g. "For the sauce:") are preserved as sections

Add Recipes Directly from a Meal Slot

The inline meal-slot input now doubles as a recipe search.

• Start typing in a slot's + input and matching recipes from your collection appear
• Use the arrow keys to highlight a suggestion and press Enter, or click it, to add the recipe to that slot
• Type freeform text instead (like "leftovers") and press Enter to add a note as before

Improvements

Collapsible Tag Filters

Tag filters on My Recipes are now tucked behind a Filter by tags toggle, so the search area stays uncluttered. The toggle shows a count of any active tag filters and expands automatically when filters are applied.

Cleaner Imported Recipe Text

• Decorative Unicode characters (box drawing, geometric shapes, stray control characters) are now stripped from imported titles, ingredients, and instructions
• HTML entities are decoded consistently so ingredient names and steps read correctly
• Ingredient sections are now detected in unstructured and social-media recipes even when section headings don't end with a colon

Bug Fixes

• Instagram imports now reliably capture the correct post image instead of an unrelated or missing thumbnail
• Saved Instagram source links are cleaned of tracking parameters and point at the canonical post

A small but handy addition to meal planning, plus a reliability fix for new accounts.

New Features

Freeform Notes in the Meal Plan

You can now add short text notes to any meal plan slot without linking a recipe — useful for quick reminders like "cereal", "dinner leftovers", or "eating out".

• Click the + button at the bottom of any meal slot to open an inline input
• Type your note and press Enter or click Add
• Notes appear as compact cards alongside recipe entries
• Remove a note with the Remove button, just like a recipe entry

Bug Fixes

• New kitchens now always get a default Shopping List created automatically, preventing a redirect loop that sent some new users back to the dashboard on their first visit to Shopping List

Multi-List Shopping

Shopping lists now support multiple named lists per kitchen.

• Create, rename, and delete lists
• Switch between lists with tabs directly in Shopping List
• Set a personal default list so Shopping List opens where you left off
• Open per-list settings from the list tab for faster management

Per-List Aisles

Each shopping list can now either share kitchen-wide aisles or use its own list-specific aisles.

• Toggle aisle mode per list
• Manage list-specific aisles from Settings > Aisles
• Keep shared aisle mode for simpler kitchens

Ingredient Sections (Multi-Component Recipes)

Recipes can now store and display ingredient sections (for example, "Salad" and "Dressing").

• Ingredient sections are preserved in recipe data
• Section headers render in Recipe Detail
• Kitchen Mode now shows ingredient sections
• Recipe editing and import flows support section-aware ingredient grouping

Ingredient section extraction is now more reliable for common WordPress recipe plugins.

• Added a plugin parser architecture for HTML ingredient-group detection
• Added/expanded support for WPRM and Tasty Recipes section mapping
• Improved section overlay onto flat LD+JSON ingredient arrays

Settings & Shopping UX Refinements

Better Print Layouts

Printing recipes, meal plans, and shopping lists now produces much cleaner output.

• Recipes: ingredients stack above instructions and content fills the full page width
• Meal plans: print in landscape so the 7-day grid fits on one page
• Shopping lists: denser rows and a 2-column layout so more items fit per page
