Collections
Organize your recipes into themed collections for easy browsing
What Are Collections?
Collections are curated groups of recipes ā similar to playlists for food. Use them to organize recipes by theme, occasion, cuisine, dietary preference, or any other way that makes sense for you.
Examples:
- Holiday Favorites
- Quick Weeknight Dinners
- Pasta Dishes
- Meal Prep Sundays
Creating a Collection
- Click Collections in the sidebar
- Click New Collection
- Give it a name and optional description
- Click Create
One Collection at a Time
A recipe belongs to one collection at a time ā or to none. Adding a recipe to a collection moves it out of whatever collection it was in before, and that collection's recipe count drops accordingly.
If you want a recipe to show up under several themes at once, use tags instead. Tags are designed for exactly that; collections are not.
Adding Recipes from a Collection
The quickest way to fill a collection is from the collection itself:
- Open the collection and click Add Recipes
- The picker opens on your most recent recipes ā browse them, or start typing to search your whole library by title, ingredient, or tag
- Tick as many recipes as you like
- Click Add to confirm
A few things the picker tells you before you confirm:
- Recipes already in this collection are marked In this collection and can't be picked again
- A recipe sitting in another collection is marked Moves from that collection, so you know what it's leaving behind
- If more recipes match your search than fit on screen, narrow the search to find the rest
Adding a Recipe from the Recipe Page
You can also set a recipe's collection while editing the recipe:
- Open any recipe page and click Edit
- Select the desired collection from the dropdown
- Click Save to My Collection
Removing Recipes from a Collection
From the collection, hover or focus a recipe card and click the ā button in its corner. The recipe leaves the collection immediately and the count updates.
Your recipe is not deleted. It stays in your recipe library, just without a collection. To put it back, use Add Recipes again.
You can also do this from the recipe editor:
- Open the recipe and click Edit
- Change the collection to the desired one, or select --None-- to remove it from its collection
- Click Save to My Collection
Collection Cover Images
Every collection has a cover image shown on the Collections page and on the collection's own header.
- You don't have to upload anything. If you never set a cover image, the collection shows the photo of one of its recipes automatically, so it's never blank. This automatic photo is chosen from the collection's current recipes, so it updates on its own as you add, change, or remove recipe photos.
- Upload your own cover image from the Edit dialog, the same as before.
- Use a recipe's photo as a permanent cover. Open Edit, and if any recipe in the collection has a photo you'll see Select from a recipe. Pick a recipe and choose Use this photo ā that photo is copied and set as the collection's cover.
Because a picked photo is copied, it stays put even if the source recipe later changes its photo, leaves the collection, or is deleted. An image you upload or pick always takes priority over the automatic fallback; remove it and the collection goes back to showing a recipe's photo (or the placeholder if no recipe has one).
Editing or Deleting a Collection
To Edit, open the Collections page and click the Edit button to rename it, update the description, or change the collection image. To Delete, click the Delete button at the bottom next to the Edit Button. Recipes inside are not affected.
Browsing Collections
The Collections page shows all your collections with a count of recipes in each. Click any collection to see or search its recipes.
