Managing Recipes

How to view, create, edit, search, and delete your recipes

Browsing Your Recipes

Navigate to My Recipes from the sidebar to see all your saved recipes. Recipes are shown as cards with a photo, title, and key details.

Use the search bar at the top to find recipes by name, ingredient, or tag.

To narrow results by tag, click Filter by tags below the search bar to expand the tag chips, then select any tags you want to filter by. The toggle shows how many tag filters are active and stays expanded while filters are applied.

Viewing a Recipe

Click any recipe card to open the full detail view. You'll see:

  • Ingredients list with quantities and units โ€” grouped by section for multi-component recipes (e.g., "Salad" and "Dressing")
  • Step-by-step instructions
  • Notes and source information
  • Tags for easy categorization

Cooking in Kitchen Mode

From a recipe's detail page, click Kitchen Mode to get a large, step-by-step view built for cooking. It keeps your screen awake and shows one step at a time.

Cooking Timers

Kitchen Mode reads the times written into your steps and turns them into timers, so you don't have to leave the recipe:

  • Any duration in a step (for example, "simmer for 20 minutes", "let cool 1 hour 30 minutes", or "half an hour") appears as a tappable chip. Tap it to start a countdown.
  • Running timers appear in a bar at the top of Kitchen Mode with a live mm:ss countdown.
  • Pause and resume a timer, restart it from the beginning, or dismiss it when you're finished.
  • Each timer is labeled with its action and step (for example, "Let cool ยท Step 4"). Tap the label to jump back to that step.
  • A sound plays and the timer turns red when time is up.
  • Timers keep running if you leave Kitchen Mode mid-recipe, and they resume where they left off when you return. Finishing the cook clears them.

Printing a Recipe

To print a recipe, open its detail page and use your browser's print command (File โ†’ Print, or Ctrl/โŒ˜ + P). Recipe Studio strips card borders, shadows, and the header photo, and compacts the layout so it fits in fewer pages. Wider recipes print in landscape.

Creating a Recipe Manually

  1. Click Add Recipe on the My Recipes page
  2. Choose Create Manually
  3. Fill in the title, ingredients, instructions, and any other details
  4. Click Save Recipe

Drafts

Recipes you've started but haven't published yet live under Drafts in the sidebar โ€” including imports you send from your phone. See Drafts for how to review and publish them.

Editing a Recipe

Open any recipe and click the Edit button (pencil icon). You can modify:

  • Title, description, and servings
  • Ingredients (name, quantity, unit, notes) โ€” organized into named sections for multi-component recipes
  • Instructions (add, reorder, or delete steps)
  • Tags and recipe collection
  • Recipe photo

Changes are saved when you click Save.

Tagging Recipes

Tags help you organize and find recipes faster. On the recipe detail or edit page, click the tag area to add or remove tags. Create any tag that makes sense for you โ€” e.g., weeknight, vegetarian, slow cooker.

Deleting a Recipe

Open the recipe, click Edit, then scroll to the bottom and click Delete Recipe. This action is permanent.

Sharing a Recipe

You can share any recipe with a public link โ€” no account required for the recipient. See Sharing & Kitchens for details.
